O'Leary, UCF close to finalizing extension

March 6, 2013

UCF coach George O'Leary currently has three years remaining on his contract. The Knights plan to keep him around for a little bit longer.

Per the Orlando Sentinel, O'Leary and UCF are in the final stages of extending his contract to take the 66-year-old coach through the 2017 football season. No other details, such as salary, were revealed.

"Obviously, it brings stability and [helps] in recruiting, and if you look at his record here he is graduating his student athletes and has two 10-win seasons in the last three years," UCF athletic director Todd Stansbury said."And with the conference changes, it provides a steady hand at the wheel."

UCF begins Big East conference play — or, what will be formally known as Big East conference play — this year. O'Leary is 60-55 in nine seasons with the Knights, and has captured two Conference USA titles.
