According to multiple sources the Steelers restructured Lawrence Timmons contract yesterday and now they will turn their attention to Ben Roethlisberger. Timmons restructure will put the Steelers into a better cap situation and a Roethlisberger restructure would have the Steelers, potentially, compliant with the cap depending on what the final salary cap number lands at.
At first the salary cap number was rumored to be around $121.1 million according to Ian Rapoport. However, just last week the number was increased to a rumored $122 million. Now there are rumors going around that the cap number could exceed $123 million. That increase of $2 million in projected cap space would make a huge difference for the Steelers.
Based on Spotrac.com's numbers Timmons restructure moved the Steelers cap number from $133,498,298 to $128,222,048. That's a cap savings of $5,276,250 million. Also helping the Steelers is their cap rollover of $1,400,000 million.
