Cleveland Cavaliers rookie shooting guard Dion Waiters will miss at least the next week with an injury to his left knee.
Waiters was examined earlier on Tuesday and was determined - via MRI -to have small, loose cartilage fragement. He will undergo a period of tests and treatment while being subject to additional observations and examination. Following one week's time, he will be evaluated on the next steps of his treatment and recovery, which could include an arthroscopic procedure.
Waiters, in his freshman campaign, is averaging 14.9 points and 3.1 assists per game. He had been initially relied upon to take the brunt of the scoring responsibility following the injury sustained by point guard Kyrie Irving. It is believed that Wayne Ellington will start in Waiters' place. Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott has also mentioned the potential for the Cavaliers to add another body as the team currently has several inactive players.
