Graham Pauley slugged a two-run homer, and Otto Lopez smacked a go-ahead RBI single in the third inning as the host Miami Marlins defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Miami’s bullpen allowed just two hits and one run in 5 1/3 innings.
Lopez, who is batting .310, is 6-for-7 so far in the first two games of this series. He started Saturday in second place, behind Phillies infielder Luis Arraez, in the battle for the National League batting title. Arraez started the day batting .318.
The Dodgers (90-58) had their eight-game win streak broken.
Miami (73-76) snapped a four-game losing skid. The Marlins are just 2-7 over their past nine games.
Max Muncy and Mookie Betts – each with a solo homer – led Los Angeles’ offense. Muncy has 28 dingers this season. Betts has 20.
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman returned to action after missing two games due to knee soreness. Freeman went 0-for-4.
Marlins right fielder Owen Caissie left the game in the third inning due to right hamstring tightness.
Tyler Glasnow (4-1) took his first loss since August 30, 2025. He struck out seven Marlins in four innings but allowed five hits, four walks and four runs.
Reliever Cade Gibson (4-1) earned the win, pitching 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball. He was followed out of the bullpen by Tyler Zuber, Calvin Faucher, Michael Petersen and Pete Fairbanks. It was Fairbanks’ 19th save of the season and his first since August 11.
The Dodgers opened the scoring in the first inning as Betts and Muncy hit homers on consecutive at-bats.
Miami took a 3-2 lead in the second as Caissie walked, and Pauley tied it with his two-run homer. Then with two outs in the same frame, the Marlins stroked three straight singles, with Lopez getting the RBI knock.
The Marlins extended their lead to 4-2 in the fifth as Glasnow walked the first two batters – Griffin Conine on four pitches and then Lopez. The Dodgers brought in reliever Jack Dreyer, who balked, hit Jakob Marsee and then gave up Javier Sanoja’s RBI groundout. That run was charged to Glasnow.
With two outs and none on in the ninth, Dodgers rookie Josue De Paula walked and scored on Hunter Feduccia’s single. But Fairbanks got Will Smith on a liner to third baseman Sanoja to end the game.
